Zazen

Morning Zazen | Online morning zazen is held Monday through Thursday. The Zoom meeting room will open at approximately 6:30 a.m. Short morning service begins at 6:45 a.m. Zazen begins at 7 a.m. and continues until 7:40 a.m. We will use our sutra book.

Sunday Morning Service and Zazen | The Zoom meeting room will open at approximately 9:30 a.m. Choka (morning service) will begin at 10 a.m., followed by kinhin (walking meditation), and zazen. A Dharma Talk will be given on the first Sunday of each month. On the Sunday closest to the 21st of each month, Mandala Day is celebrated. We will use our sutra book.

Introduction to Zen Meditation

Join us on Zoom every Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for Introduction to Zen Meditation hosted jointly by Zen Studies Society and Zen Center of Syracuse. We begin with instruction on meditation posture and technique, followed by a brief period of guided meditation and an opportunity for questions. No prior experience necessary, anyone who attends this introduction is then welcome to join us at New York Zendo for other practice events. Please see the calendar for any schedule updates.

Engaged Buddhism
  • Engaged Buddhism Dharma Discussion Group with Jifu Devyani Sadh. First Wednesday of every month. 7-8:30 p.m. Register
  • Racial Solidarity Sangha with Seiho Morris and Jasmine Syedullah. Second Wednesday of every month. 7-8:30 p.m. Register
  • Critical Buddhist Study with Yuki Eric Michels. Third Wednesday of every month. 7-8:30 p.m. Register
  • Engaged Buddhism Open Meeting with Jikyo Bonnie Shoultz Sensei and Dr. Michael Fayne. Fourth Wednesday of every month. 7-8:30 p.m. Register
Dokusan (one-on-one interviews with our teachers)
  • Wednesdays and Thursdays with Chigan Roshi
  • Mondays with Hokuto Osho

Monthly dokusan registration emails are sent to those who have signed up to receive our communications.
