Introduction to Zen

While we cautiously begin opening to limited in-person practice, we continue our online teachings, meetings and sittings every day. Read our full Covid Protocols here.

Please join us for our Introduction to Zen Weekend program,  a unique opportunity to experience Rinzai Zen Buddhist practice in a monastic environment. The program begins with an orientation late Friday afternoon. Throughout the weekend we focus intensively on the central elements of Zen practice–zazen (seated meditation with attention to posture and breath), chanting, jihatsu (traditional bowls used in silent, formal meals), and work practice. Abbot Shinge Roshi or a senior student will give a Dharma talk Saturday night and will meet with participants for a question-and-answer period. The weekend concludes on Sunday with an informal lunch and discussion. Bus transportation from New York Zendo may be available. For helpful information, click to read our new “Introduction to Zen” booklet and for the weekend schedule, click here.

To find the next Intro, see the events page, the fee is $250.00 per person. Please reserve at least two weeks in advance. You can sign up through the events page, email the DBZ office, or call us at (845) 439-4566.
