NYZ: Zazen and Dokusan

March 4 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)

Chigan Roshi and Hokuto Osho take turns offering online dokusan (one-on-one teacher/student interviews) to those students who participate in-person in Monday evening zazen.  The format will follow the form of in-person dokusan as closely as possible.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m.  Formal activities begin promptly at 7 p.m. There will be han, lineage chanting, and two periods of zazen with dokusan.  No registration is necessary.  A $10 donation is suggested for non-members.  Please consider becoming a Member.

Newcomers to the temple should attend one Introduction to Zen Meditation class, held on Thursday evenings, before joining the community for other practice events. The introduction covers the basics of Zen meditation: posture, breathing, and concentration. Beginners will also learn the forms used at New York Zendo for bowing, chanting, and walking meditation (kinhin). No prior experience is necessary.  A quiet atmosphere with minimal distractions is essential to our practice. Please refer to Zendo Etiquette before attending a sit.   ZSS Health Protocols apply.
