We will hold our monthly Mandala Day service at 10 a.m., followed by kinhin (walking meditation), and zazen. We then work on cleaning (nittensoji) and caretaking projects for a half hour before sitting down together for informal lunch. Food offerings are welcome, but not required.
Newcomers to the temple are requested to attend one Introduction to Zazen (Zen meditation) class, held on Thursday evenings, before joining the community for regular zazen practice or other scheduled events. The introduction covers the basics of Zen meditation: posture, breathing, and concentration. Beginners will also learn the forms used at New York Zendo for bowing, chanting, and walking meditation (kinhin). No prior experience is necessary.
A quiet atmosphere with minimal distractions is essential to our practice. Please do not wear scented cosmetics, and set any electronic device to silent mode. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. A $10 donation is requested. ZSS Health Protocols apply.
