dbz rohatsu sesshin 23 cal

Registration is closed for Rohatsu Sesshin for 2023.  If you would like to be placed on the waiting list for cancellations, please email the office. Registration is available for online attendance, including the opening ceremony on November 30, daily choka (morning service), afternoon teishos or Dharma talks, the evening programs beginning at 7 pm, and the Jodo-e and closing ceremonies the morning of December 8.

Rohatsu is held each year at Zen temples and monasteries throughout the world to commemorate the enlightenment of Shakyamuni Buddha when he saw a star at dawn on the eighth day of his retreat. This intensive, in-person sesshin is an unsurpassable opportunity for deep practice and realization, inspired by the Buddha’s determination as he sat beneath the Bodhi tree, vowing not to rise until he achieved true awakening. Rohatsu week begins the evening of November 30 and concludes on the morning of December 8 with Jodo-E (Buddha’s Enlightenment Ceremony). Our scheduled sittings will extend farther and farther into the night. Shinge Roshi, Chigan Roshi and Hokuto Osho will give teisho and offer dokusan. Each evening we will hear Hakuin Zenji’s “Rohatsu Exhortations.”

The fee for online participation is $40 for members and $50 for nonmembers.  No one will be turned away for lack of funds. ZSS Health Protocols apply.
