Introduction to Zen Meditation and Instruction and Teisho by Eran Junryu Roshi
New to Zen Buddhism or interested in learning? New York Zendo Shobo-ji offers city dwellers the opportunity to experience traditional Zen practice in the midst of their daily lives, a true oasis of deep stillness in the heart of Manhattan. Every Thursday evening The Zen Studies Society offers an Introduction to Zazen. The evening covers the basics of zazen (Zen meditation): posture, breathing, and concentration. Beginners will also learn the form used at New York Zendo: bowing, chanting, and walking meditation. Join us! Reservations are not necessary. For questions, office@newyorkzendo.org or 212-861-3333.
At the invitation of Shinge Roshi, Junryu Roshi teaches at NYZ once a month. He is the founder of Eiryu-ji Zen Center, and is a Dharma teacher in the lineage of Taizan Maezumi Roshi, a member of the White Plum Sangha, and a 6th Dan teacher of Aikido, Shidoin. He is available for individual practice interviews and for assistance with physical sitting issues from 5 p.m. Email or call 212-861-3333 if you would like to meet with him. Beginners’ instruction and zazen for those who do not attend the instruction begin at 6:45.
