NYZ: Little Bodhisattvas Music Program
February 20 @ 3:30 pm - 4:15 pm
Zen Meditation, Music, and Movement Classes for Early Childhood
(babies, toddlers, preschoolers | Ages 0 – 5 years)
This is a 45-minute meditation, music, and movement class for 0-5 year-old children with adult participation (caretaker or parent). In each class we introduce temple percussion instruments and incorporate them in the music. This is an age-appropriate class where children get their energy out with music and movement but also learn to regulate their emotions by short meditation.
Dewi Puspita earned her music degree in classical composition from Showa University of Music in Japan. She also earned a degree in Early Childhood Education from BMCC CUNY. She is a registered Music Together Teacher. Representing women composers from Indonesia, her music was performed in Rome, Italy, in 2009 through Fondazione Adkins Chiti, a member of UNESCO International Music Council. She also won an honorable mention from USA Songwriting competition in 2009 and was a finalist in the UK Songwriting Competition 2013. She created Bali Healing Music, a collection of music mainly inspired by Buddhism and Childhood Music Library — a collection of classical rearrangements of nursery rhymes — as an inspiration from the research of Mozart Effect in children. Currently she is an early childhood professional at a pre-K classroom in Manhattan and works at Research Foundation CUNY as a teaching assistant for Early Childhood Education faculty at BMCC. She is constantly learning and researching on how to teach children in early childhood meditation, mindfulness, and music.
