NYZ: Learning Noh — Noh Chant and Dance

October 4 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

With a history spanning more than 650 years, Noh is one of the world’s oldest continuously performed theatrical traditions, evoking the inner landscapes of both the human and beyond-human realms.
Designed for beginners, this workshop offers participants an introduction to two celebrated Noh plays: Takasago, which evokes the eternal pine tree and prayer for peace, and Yuya, a reflection on blossoms and the transience of human life.

Through utai (chanting), participants will explore deep diaphragmatic breathing and traditional vocal expression. Through mai (dance), they will experience the grounded movements of Kata, reminiscent of moving meditation.
Experience the essence of Japanese culture in the quiet atmosphere of a Zen temple.

No prior experience is necessary.
Bilingual instruction in Japanese and English.

Location: New York Zendo
223 East 67th Street, New York, NY10065
