NYZ: Gongfu Tea Ceremony
January 12 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Unlike many spiritual paths, Zen has no single doctrine or dogma. Foremost, it is a practice to be experienced. Thus, Zen teachers developed many nonverbal ways of transmitting their teachings, one of which was the preparation of tea. There is a saying that Zen and tea are one flavor as their histories and lore are intertwined. Buddhist monks were the first to domesticate tea. When Japanese monks studied in China, they returned with tea plants in tow. Even Bodhidharma is a key figure in one of the origin stories of tea. Join us for a gongfu tea ceremony served by our fellow Sangha members Gordon Arkenberg and Erika Houle following our regular morning service and zazen sit.
If you would like to join us for the tea ceremony without attending our morning chanting service or meditation, please arrive between noon and 12:30pm.
No registration necessary. Free will donation.
