NYZ: Buddhist Basics — Establishing a Zen Practice
March 24 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Led by Giun Streit, head monk at New York Zendo, this four-week course aims to “fill the gap” between the experience of taking an introductory class and becoming a regular Zen practitioner. During each weekly meeting, we will share two short periods of meditation and investigate one or two core teachings in Buddhism. Probable topics include: the Four Noble Truths, the three core practices of Zen (zazen, chanting and work practice), refining your meditation posture, working with zazen energy, establishing a home practice, the Buddhist understanding of time, as well as any questions raised by the participants.
If you are relatively new to Zen and looking to establish a Zen practice, or if you wish to rekindle a dormant practice, this class is for you.
The suggested contribution for the series is $100.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Class will meet in the Dharma Hall on the second floor and will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Sangha members not taking the course may meditate informally in the zendo during the same time period. Participants must comply with the current ZSS Covid Protocols.
