NYZ: March-On Sesshin

This year’s March-On Sesshin will be led by Shinge Roshi with special guest teacher Gentoku Kobayashi Roshi, abbot of Daitsu-in at Shokoku-ji, Kyoto, who was an inspiring presence at the 50th Anniversary of Shobo-ji. He and Shinge Roshi will each offer teisho and dokusan. Formal zendo meals will be served. A suggested donation of $160 for members or $185 for nonmembers is appreciated. (Please note that overnight accommodations at the temple are already full.)
Payment for this event includes attendance at a special Teisho by Kobayashi Roshi on Tannisho, an important text for Shin Buddhism, Monday at 7 p.m.
Translation of Kobayashi Roshi’s teisho on Tannisho, as well as the teisho he will offer during March-On sesshin, will be provided by Rev. Miki Nakura of Higashi Hongan-ji and the Jodo-Shinshu Shin Buddhist New York Sangha. Rev. Nakura speaks regularly on Shin Buddhism at NYZ.

Gentoku Kobayashi Roshi
Born in 1963 in Nagaoka city, Niigata Prefecture, Kobayashi Roshi became a priest in 1994 at Seiken-ji, Shizuoka Prefecture, then joined Myoshin-ji monastery in Kyoto the following year. In 1998 he moved to Shokoku-ji monastery to study under Hoju Tanaka Roshi, from whom he received Dharma transmission in April 2006. He became Abbot of Daitsu-in at Shokoku-ji in August 2008. Among his duties as Abbot is to lead the training monastery of Shokoku-ji, Daitsu-in.
