DBZ: Harvest Sesshin

November 11, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - November 14, 2021 @ 5:00 pm

This year’s Harvest Sesshin will culminate in the Jukai Ceremony in which dedicated Zen students receive the Buddhist Precepts from their teacher. “Ju” is a synonym for “kaku,” “to realize.” “Kai” means “Precepts,” but it is also a synonym for Buddha-nature. So in the most profound sense, Jukai means “to awaken to ultimate freedom.” Shinge Roshi will conduct the Precepts ceremony on the last day of this sesshin.

As we begin cautiously opening to in-person attendance (following the full ZSS Covid Protocols), a limited number of participants can be accommodated in addition to DBZ residents. The fee to participate in-person at Dai Bosatsu Zendo is $200 for members and $250 for non-members. For those in the NYC area, there is also an option to participate in-person at New York Zendo Shobo-ji. Shobo-ji will be sitting the full sesshin, connected via Zoom. The fee to participate in-person at Shobo-ji is $160 for members or $200 for non-members.
